The emergency shutdown inserts graphite tips before the absorber, so on a core with a high void fraction it briefly adds reactivity instead of removing it. The panel warns you — АЗ-5 UNSAFE · VOID FRACTION HIGH — but it will not stop you. This is the flaw that mattered in 1986.
My rods stopped working after a scram. Also intended. A scrammed core drops into the iodine pit and cannot be restarted for hours, so that unit is out for the rest of the shift.
The pumps cost me output. Yes. Circulation and feed pumps are a real parasitic load, so cooling is paid for in the megawatts you are graded on. The mimic board shows the draw as AUX.
